South Rotterdam, a thriving location
If you live in the Startmotor, then you’re in for a treat! For example, the building is within walking distance of the Zuidplein and in the middle of Hart van Zuid.
This Rotterdam district – including Ahoy and the Zuidplein shopping center – will be transformed in a grand way into one of the most attractive living, working and entertainment areas in the city. And you live in the middle of that.
Tip: Take a look at the Hart van Zuid website to find all the latest commercial, infrastructure and property, commercial news and developments. *Dutch only
Food and drinks
At Startmotor, you are within a 10-minute biking distance from the hippest neighbourhoods and places in town. First off, you’ve got the Afrikaanderwijk district, where you’ll find the best espresso bar in south Rotterdam – Koffiehandel Pretoria. If Indonesian food is your thing, then head over to Rotterdam’s unofficial king of satay – The Saté-Man. And if you prefer the Vegan lifestyle, cycle over to Sharp Sharp and enjoy a lovely Vegan cake in their urban jungle. For an evening drink and some cultural events, RAAF (Rotterdam-Art-Adventure-Food) is the place to be. And don’t forget to visit Afrikaanderplein. You’ll find the local market there every Wednesdays and Saturdays.
In South Rotterdam, there is no shortage of entertainment, especially when the Ahoy convention centre is on the other side of the road. Fancy cheering on Rotterdam’s most popular football team? Then head over to De Kuip and grab yourself a ticket to see Feyenoord. Prefer going to the theatre, live shows or stand up comedy? Then you’re spoiled for choice with Theatre Zuidplein around the corner, cultural hotspot RAAF at the Maassilo or the Nieuwe Luxor Theatre in the Kop van Zuid. And if you fancy watching the latest blockbusters, the Pathé cinema is only a 12-minute bike ride away.
Sport and leisure
Of course, you can work out in one of the two Startmotor gyms or play football, basketball and many more in the rooftop sports arena. Still, there are also plenty of indoor and outdoor sports activities in the immediate vicinity. You can go for a lovely run in the Zuiderpark or follow a boxing training at the local boxing club. The city limits aren’t too far away either, so if you’re an avid cyclist, you can be cycling in the countryside in no time. If swimming or water polo is your thing, then head over to the nearby swimming centre. But that’s not all. We’ve got basketball, handball, volleyball, netball, tennis clubs, dance schools and ice rings all within a 10-minute bike ride.
Relaxing in the city
South Rotterdam has a lot to offer in terms of winding down after a busy day or week. Leave your phone at home and go for a walk in Het Zuiderpark. Grab your bike, and within no time, you’re in the countryside cycling along the Old Meuse river. Or if you fancy being a tourist in your own city, why not head towards the northern river bank and cut through the lovely Katendrecht and Kop van Zuid skyline. Remember all of the lovely places you just read about for food and drinks? That’s right!
